Understanding Shoal Ambush Tactics
Smallies migrate out of deep water during low-light conditions to drive crayfish and emerald shiners into shallow rock piles. Key ambush areas include:
- Windward Point Extensions: Rocky points where wind and current push baitfish directly over shallow boulder fields (3–8 ft).
- Isolated Submerged Rock Humps: “Unmarked” navigational hazards sitting in 10 to 15 feet of water that top out near 4–6 feet.
